MTD ITSA is mandatory from 6 April 2026

Skip the accountant for your quarterly MTD submissions. Do it yourself in minutes.

Instead of paying an accountant £200–£300 a year, upload the spreadsheet you already use and let GetSorted send your numbers to HMRC.

No bank login. No receipt scanning. Just your spreadsheet.

Three simple steps. That's it.

You don't need to understand tax software. If you can use a spreadsheet, you can use GetSorted.

Step 1

Connect your HMRC account

One-time setup. You'll sign in to HMRC directly — we never see your password.

Step 2

Upload your spreadsheet

Your income and expenses — the Excel or CSV file you already keep. We'll show you which columns to match.

Step 3

We send it to HMRC — done

Review your numbers, hit submit, and your quarterly update goes straight to HMRC. You'll get confirmation in seconds.

Is this for me?

If you're self-employed and file a Self Assessment tax return, you'll need to comply with Making Tax Digital from April 2026. GetSorted is built for people like you:

Tradespeople & contractors
Freelancers & consultants
Landlords with rental income
Cleaners & housekeepers
Drivers & couriers
Anyone who files Self Assessment

If you earn over £50,000 from self-employment or property, MTD ITSA is mandatory from 6 April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 from April 2027.

What spreadsheet do I upload?

Upload the file where you track what you earn and spend. It could be:

Pre-filled with HMRC-compatible categories. Just add your numbers.

“Why can't I just upload my spreadsheet to HMRC directly?”

HMRC doesn't have a portal where you can upload a spreadsheet. Their system only accepts data sent through approved software using their official API.

GetSorted is the bridge. It reads your spreadsheet, organises the numbers into the format HMRC requires, and sends it directly to them. We do the technical part so you don't have to.

Your data stays yours

Straight to HMRC

Your financial data goes directly to HMRC via their official API. We're just the bridge.

No bank login needed

We never ask for your bank details, login credentials, or access to your accounts.

Encrypted & secure

Your tax references are encrypted with AES-256. HMRC tokens are stored server-side only.

Common questions

What spreadsheet do I need?
Any spreadsheet where you track your income and expenses — an Excel file, a CSV export from your bank, or even a simple list you keep. When you upload it, we'll show you exactly which columns to match to HMRC's categories. If you don't have one yet, download our free template.
Who processes my data?
Your financial data goes directly to HMRC via their official API. GetSorted reads your spreadsheet to format the data correctly, but we don't store your income or expense figures long-term. Your tax references (UTR and NINO) are encrypted and only used to identify you to HMRC.
What if I make a mistake?
Quarterly updates are not final. You can resubmit corrected figures at any time during the tax year. Only the end-of-year final declaration is binding — and you'll review everything carefully before that.
Why can't I just do this on the HMRC website?
HMRC doesn't offer a spreadsheet upload tool on their website. Making Tax Digital requires you to use approved “bridging software” to send your data. GetSorted is that software — we connect to HMRC's official API so you don't have to.
Do I need to already have a spreadsheet?
Yes — you'll need a spreadsheet with your income and expense records. If you don't have one yet, download our free starter template. It comes pre-filled with HMRC-compatible categories. Just add your numbers.
Is GetSorted free?
You can sign up and try GetSorted for free. Our free plan lets you upload spreadsheets and preview how your data maps to HMRC categories. To submit to HMRC, you'll need a paid plan — still much cheaper than paying an accountant to do it for you. See pricing.
